New DSL Prices

Posted By -
Dan B @ 4:25 pm EDT
If you are a current SBC DSL customer, you might want to check your latest phone bill to see what you are being charged.

Business customers are paying anywhere from $49.00 to $79.00 per month, depending on the "services" that you are buying. Riverside Internet can offer the same service at a greatly reduced price. Usually at a $20-$30 saving PER MONTH.

You will not only recieve the same high speed service, at a greatly reduced price, but you will also not have to deal with SBC's foreign country, non-fluent English technical support when problems arise.

If your a residential customer, take a look at our prices. We know that SBC's "Promotional" prices only last for the first year. We can probably save you money, too!

Tenth Anniversary

Posted By -
Dan B @ 3:18 pm EDT
Today, March 1, 2006 is Riverside Internet Services tenth anniversary. That's
right, 10 full years serving Newaygo County with Internet access. We've also been
servicing computers for over three years now and selling parts in our retail store for nearly two years.

We want thank all of you that have made that possible. To show our
appreciation we are going to give away a complete computer system. All that you
have to do is to come in and register during the month of March. We have a
picture of the complete system on our website at
http://www.riverview.net/winthiscomputer.php.

We have the system on display in our retail store and we encourage you to come
in and take it for a test drive. The registration slips are on the counter. If
you don't know your account number, we can give it to you.

Thanks for ten great years!

Power Outage

Posted By -
Dan B @ 3:03 pm EDT
Well, the storm that ripped through West Michigan yesterday and last night killed our power at about 1:00 a.m. It was finally restored at about 12:15 p.m. today.

We thought that we were going to be insulated from events like that with our new server arrangement, but the power outages were spread out over a large enough area that it still got us.

We are sorry for any inconveniences that you all experienced.

Data Lines

Posted By -
Dan B @ 7:27 pm EDT
Today at approximately 5:30 P.M. we had one of our data lines (T-1) go down. When this sort of thing happens it makes most functions, such as getting online, or retrieving email if you are already online, difficult, if not impossible.

The outage lasted about an 1-1/4 hour, as we started seeing traffic restored at about 6:45 P.M.

This is the type of problem that you, the dial-up customer see's as "on our end". While I suppose it could be viewed that way, it really isn't. We, just as all service providers, depend on our suppliers to work 100% of the time. When they don't, we look bad.

When you, the customer, call and ask what is going on, we always try to be truthful and forthcoming as to what the problem is. If WE are experiencing problems with one of OUR servers, we will tell you.

We wish that the RBOC's (Regional Bell Operating Companies), in our case, SBC (they can change their name if they want, but they are still SBC), operated the same.

Planned Shutdown of 12/7/05

Posted By -
Dan B @ 6:55 pm EDT
The shutdown that we mass emailed all of our customers about is now complete according to SBC. We were led to believe that it was going to be a 3 to 4 hour process during which the Newaygo numbers would be in-operable.

As it turned out, it did not take as long as the estimate that we were given and none of the circuits were in-operable. Now, according to the SBC person who was handling the operation, the job is complete.

We sincerely hope so. If there are any lingering side effects we will certainly let you all know via this page and mass email.

Riverside Accellerator

Posted By -
Dan B @ 10:27 am EDT
We still have a few users of the Propel Accelerator who have not downloaded the new Riverside Accelerator. Those that have yet to do so, need to do in now, as we have made Propel in-operable.

We have encountered a few procrastinators who have the mistaken idea that the new Riverside Accelerator is somehow inferior because we are offering it FREE. This could not be farther from the truth.

The reason that we have introduced the new product is because it is far superior to the old one. At the time that we originally began offering Accelerated Dial-up, we tested several products that were available at that time. We picked the one that best fit our needs. We took into consideration several factors, such as, the technology, the support provided, the promises of product upgrades, the price that we would have to pay, how much we thought that we could resell it for, etc.

We made the decision to offer Propel. As time went on, things began to change. The promises of product upgrades did not materialize, bugs that we encountered did not get fixed, the technical support did not perform adequately. We started looking around for a new solution.

We found what we consider a superior solution. The technology is better, the organization that we buy from is superior, and therefore more likely to perform.

We were able to negotiate a bulk price that was more affordable than the per user price we were paying before, so we made the decision to absorb the cost of offering the product in order to add value to our dial-up product. We sincerely believe that we are now offering the best value available in dial-up Internet access. We now have accelerated dial-up at the same cost as regular dial-up. Our technical support is second to none and we are a local company. You can walk right in the door and talk to a knowledgeable local resident.

Download your FREE copy today and start enjoying a faster, better, Internet experience.

Don't forget that we are still offering a FREE month of dial-up service to present customers that refer a friend who puts your name on their sign-up sheet. The new user gets TWO months of dial-up for $19.95. Of course, now ALL of our dial-up access is enhanced with the new Riverside Accelerator.

Telehone Line

Posted By -
Dan B @ 6:54 pm EDT
Our phone service seems to be back in operation. Much to our chagrin, we sent out a mass email to all of our customers this afternoon when things got worse and SBC was telling us that there was a cable problem.

They said that it could be Friday before our service got restored, so we thought it best to send everyone an email.

Now it appears as if the original SBC estimate was correct. We hope that everything is back to normal. If it is not, we will certainly let you all know.

Telephone Line Problems

Posted By -
Dan B @ 4:40 pm EDT
Riverside Internet is experiencing telephone line problems on our main incoming voice line, 652-2562. We first discovered the problem in the afternoon of October 31.

SBC says that if could take until 7:00 pm on November 1 before it is repaired.

Our secondary number, 652-2658 seems to be working, so please use that number.

We are sorry for any inconveniences that this may cause.
